Check is an award-winning workflow tool for journalists, civil society organizations, intergovernmental groups and other stakeholders looking to connect with audiences on closed messaging apps, and to better understand information patterns by ingesting user-submitted content, categorizing what they receive, and sharing responses where relevant back with their audiences. With collaborative media annotation back-end and the ability to create custom chatbots and newsletters for connecting with communities, it has been used to power some of the world's largest journalism coalitions and collaborations to strengthen election integrity, to respond to health crises and natural disasters, and to document mis/disinformation, hate speech and other forms of harmful content for investigations. Check is currently used by journalists, media organizations, and other civil society groups to: Engage and scale audiences. Check helps organizations meet their audiences where they already are: on closed messaging channels like WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, and Viber. With the help of AI, one-on-one conversations engage audiences directly on the platforms they already use. These enhancements include machine-learning algorithms in a wider variety of languages, with a particular focus on languages that are often underserved by existing technical infrastructure. Understand community insights. Check workspaces serve as repositories of a wealth of useful information. Features in the app help organizations better understand trends in user-submitted questions and content, which can be used for research or to set priorities and improve communications. Amplifying the usability of this area is a priority for new product development. Powering peer collaboration. Harnessing the data already or potentially available on Check will also improve peer collaboration between partners. Our goal is to help organizations around the world to share information submitted by their tipline/helpline/chatbot audiences, access global trend information, and use this information to improve their own reporting, response or fact-checking capacity.
